The ITF Senior World Individual Championships have come to a close in San Diego, California, and while no Canadians came away with a title, several enjoyed very successful results.
Taras Beyko and Karl Hale accomplished the country’s best singles feats, both reaching the semifinals in their respective age groups. Beyko, the No. 1 seed in the men’s 40s, dropped a 6-2, 7-5 decision to Marcus Hilpert of the Netherlands in the final four, while No. 7 seed Hale fell to No. 3 Jeff Greenwald of the United States 6-4, 6-0 in the men’s 45 age category. Hale also was a quarter-finalist in doubles.
Julien Heine reached the semifinals of the men’s 35 doubles draw, alongside his Mexican partner Manuel Calvo. In the men’s 50s, Canadian Derek Segal and Brendan Gaylis of the U.S. reached the quarter-finals.
In the 35s, Adam Baranowski and Bronwyn Muirhead won the men’s and women’s consolation draws.
