Overview – National Training Centres (Full and Part-Time)
As high performance Canadian tennis continues to grow and flourish, there becomes an increasingly greater need to develop an environment in which top players and coaches can train to achieve their goal of international excellence. The establishment of two National Training Centres allows Tennis Canada and its provincial partners to work with clubs, coaches, and players to ensure that nations resources are maximized, and that we continually work towards developing Grand Slam, Olympic, and Paralympic champions. Our efforts will help to ensure that Canada remains competitive with other top tennis nations with first class facilities and training centres.
A full time, live in, National Training Centre Program will be implemented in Montreal beginning in September 2007. This program will assist athletes to reach their full potential by providing world class training, management, coaching, sports science, and competitive opportunities.
A part-time regrouping centre will also be opened in Toronto this fall. It will focus on U12 development and will act as a regrouping centre for our nations best U14 boys.
In partnership with its provincial tennis associations, Tennis Canada has also developed provincial/regional training programs. These are programs that will help develop a larger pool of athletes from which to select for the new National Training Centres.
Provincial/Regional Training Programs
Provincial/Regional NTC programs act as feeders into either the full-time or part-time National Training Centres.
Players from provincial/regional programs across the country who are achieving or who show potential to achieve at international levels will be brought together to participate in the national program.
